On Wednesday 13 May, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., the University of Milan invites the academic community and interested members of the public to discover APICE – Archives of the Word, Image and Publishing Communication – at its premises at Via Noto 6 in Milan.
Established in 2002, APICE preserves and promotes bibliographic, archival and iconographic collections documenting the cultural and publishing history of the twentieth century. Its rich and diverse holdings bring literature, publishing, visual arts and communication into dialogue.
The event will offer visitors the opportunity to explore some of APICE’s most significant collections, including the Scheiwiller, Bompiani, Giovanni Giudici and Elio Vittorini archives, the Sergio Reggi Futurist collection, the Colla Theatre collection and the La Notte photographic archive.
The programme also includes an interactive workshop in which participants will explore and interpret historical sources. Taking water as their guiding theme, they will navigate the city of Milan and attempt to date images with no accompanying information, drawing on observation, intuition and discussion.
The programme ends with a guided tour of APICE’s treasures: a journey through “living” archives that speak to the present and offer fresh perspectives on the past.
