Borrow a book and return it at any of our libraries

Starting from today, you can choose to pick up the books you reserved via MinervaLink verso un sito esterno, the University Library Service catalogue, at any of our libraries.
After logging in with your university email, search for the book you need, click on “Request” and then select the library where you want to pick it up. We will bring the book directly to the selected library.

You will receive an email as soon as the book is available for pick-up at your chosen location. Please wait for this confirmation email before going to the library.

As always, you can renew your loans from your Minerva account, but only if the loan period hasn’t expired and no one else has requested the book.
We remind you that you can also return books to any of our libraries, choosing the most convenient for you. Just take the book to the reception desk, or use the return boxes located outside each library.

Loan service

Loan requests MUST be submitted through the University Catalogue.

What you need to do:

  • Request a book from the Catalogue
  • Check in the confirmation pop-up where and when you can collect it
  • Check your university email: if there are any problems you will be contacted by the library
  • Go to the library as instructed, wearing a mask, and with an ID
  • Users will be asked to stand in line at the library entrance observing distancing measures.

Remember that it can take a few days from your request to the book being available for pick-up, but you have a week to collect it.

Access to the loan points will be regulated in compliance with Covid-19 safety measures. At the entrance of the university buildings, your body temperature will be measured (if it is higher than 37.5 you will not be allowed to enter or return books). You will then be asked to stand in line at the library entrance, observing distancing provisions. Procedures and times have been designed to ensure safety for both users and staff. However, should the daily influx exceed the library capacity, we may consider providing the loan service by appointment only.

All other services continue remotely. For more information see #bibliounimidacasa

The library provides the following services

Access to the collections and reading rooms

The library material is available to students, Erasmus students, University’s teaching staff, visiting professors, University staff, staff from partner institutions and external users who have an interest in the collections.
The collections held in the biomedical libraries are also available to users from affiliated hospital centres.
Users can consult the Digital Library resources (for example biomedical e-books), as well as the free online resources (books, dictionaries and atlases), from the computer terminals. University students, teaching staff and personnel can also log in to the Digital Library off-campus using their university email login details.

Wherever possible, the collections are on open shelves: books, journals and other materials, located in the reading rooms or in other rooms, that can be accessed directly by users.
To access materials located in reserved reading rooms or on closed stacks, readers must submit a request to the library staff: they are normally retrieved at the time of request, except when the storage area is located off-site or when the organization of individual libraries does not allow for this.
The reading room is primarily intended for the use of the collections and services. Admission to the reading room for the purpose of study using personal materials is permitted on a seat availability basis, as verified by library staff.
For more information, please consult the Library services.

Students who fail to return items within 60 days of their due date will have a temporary block put on their academic studies and will be excluded from exam sessions; the block will be removed once the borrowed item is returned; however, the student’s suspension from using the library service will remain in place.
