Egyptology Library and Archives

The Library was founded around the collection of Egyptologist Elmar Edel (1914–1997), which comprises over 15,000 titles, including books and journal extracts on Egyptology, the history of the ancient Near East, and biblical studies. In 2002, the collection was further enriched with the Varille collection, which consists of rare and valuable volumes. The collection is regularly updated

Egyptology Library extraordinary closure

The Egyptology Library will be closed until Monday, 23 March 2026.


Requests to consult volumes may be sent by email to bib.sa.fm@unimi.it.


The volumes may be consulted at the Papyrology Library during its regular opening hours:


Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.


Reservation is required to access the Library room.
