The list of new acquisitions of the Philosophy Library for the month of June is now available on Minerva. Newly acquired volumes and the latest issues of serials are temporarily displayed on the exhibition stand in the basement, where they can be freely consulted and borrowed.
Among last month’s acquisitions, we highlight:
- Volumes dedicated to the intersection of philosophy, technology, and society. Works such as Macchine calcolatrici e intelligenza and Digital Sapiens: decidere con l’intelligenza artificiale explore in detail the challenges posed by digital innovation and artificial intelligence. Alongside these, broader volumes like Tecnologia, politica, società and Studiare i media: prospettive disciplinari e parole chiave provide critical tools to understand the impact of new technologies on contemporary culture.
- New research in the history of philosophy and reinterpretation of the classics, exploring key moments in European philosophical history. Crisi di una tradizione: la filosofia in Italia (1945-1970) analyzes the decline of activist and historicist philosophy in postwar Italy. Two volumes on Machiavelli (Machiavelli, by Roberto Esposito, and La corona vuota: il pensiero politico di Machiavelli nei drammi storici di Shakespeare) offer a critical rereading of Renaissance political thought, also in relation to its reception in literature. Finally, Erasmo e noi and Die Geburt des modernen Geschichtsdenkens in Europa reflect on the humanistic legacy and the birth of modern historical thought on the continent.
- Works dedicated to the concepts of war and conflict, analyzed in their philosophical, anthropological, and political roots: from reflections on the “just war” and the possibility of peace (La guerra "giusta" e la pace da costruire), to the genealogy of conflict and its dynamics (Origine e natura del conflitto), up to perspectives exploring the meaning and necessity of war in history and society (Padre e re: filosofia della guerra; Perché la guerra?).
- A wide selection of Classiques Garnier titles focusing on the encyclopedic enterprise (Ecrire l'encyclopédisme, du 18. siècle à nos jours; Diderot et l'antiquité classique) and the legacy of the Enlightenment (Les Lumières, l'esclavage et l'idéologie coloniale; Europe philosophique, Europe politique: l'héritage des Lumières), with a particular focus on the contribution of women writers and thinkers (Le temps des femmes: textes mémoriels des Lumières; Femmes des Lumières: recherches en arborescences).
