Publish Service

Starting from the 2025 subscription year, the contract applies the Subscribe to Open (S2O) model to the following journals:

  • Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy®
  • Applied and Environmental Microbiology®
  • Infection and Immunity®
  • Journal of Bacteriology®
  • Journal of Clinical Microbiology®
  • Journal of Virology®

This publishing model provides that, if all global subscribers renew their subscriptions to the journals included in the S2O program, the Publisher will publish that year’s volume under the terms of a CC-BY open access license.
The CRUI-CARE agreement establishes that UNIMI corresponding authors may publish unlimited articles in open access in the above-mentioned journals without APC charges. The University, as subscriber, retains permanent rights over the content of the journals regardless of the success of the S2O Subscribe to Open initiative.
Corresponding authors will be charged only for additional costs (e.g. coloured images or publication fees), where applicable for each journal, with a 25% discount. If the corresponding author is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the discount on additional costs is 50%.

Green Open Access

Authors affiliated with the University of Milan have the right to permanently publish at least the post-print version of their articles (reflecting the edits made during the peer review process) on their own website or in the institutional research repository of the University, in open access mode, without embargo. This is also intended to allow researchers to comply with their own contractual obligations on open access publication, in accordance with national and European legal requirements.

Management of Open Access publications

Upon acceptance of their article, corresponding authors can choose to publish open access, by using their university email address. The CRUI-CARE agreement allows open access publication with copyright retained by the author. The standard license is CC BY.
