The Library of the Centre for Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication originated from the merger of the Department of Contemporary Languages and Cultures collection with the library of the CTU (Teaching and Learning Innovation and Multimedia Technology Centre) at the University of Milan. The departmental collection, housed in the reading room, focuses on cultural and linguistic studies relevant to the department’s research and has been expanded through subsequent acquisitions.

The library holds over 26,000 books and more than 180 print journals/serials.

Its subject areas include linguistics, Oriental studies, anthropology, history, political science, sociology, economics, cultural studies, Italian studies, and geography.

The ISIAO (Italian Institute for Africa and the Orient) Section preserves rare books and serials on Oriental and African studies. This collection, acquired up until 2011, includes prestigious works from two institutions that merged in 1995: the International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (IsMEO) and the Istituto Italo-Africano.

The SUVIN Collection contains books and journals donated by Croatian scholar Darko Suvin, Professor Emeritus at McGill University (Montreal, Canada). The collection features important works of literary criticism and history, focusing on European and world literature. The CTU Section, housed in the media library, focuses on e-learning and media studies (cinema, radio, television). Notable audiovisual collections include rare films from various continents and thematic areas, with a particular emphasis on experimental and documentary cinema.
