Subscription to the journals Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences and Biology Letters.

Publishing Service

From the 2026 subscription year onwards, the publisher is applying the Subscribe to Open (S2O) model to the following journals:

• Proceedings A
• Proceedings B
• Journal of the Royal Society
• Interface
• Biology Letters, Interface Focus
• Philosophical Transactions A
• Philosophical Transactions B
• Notes and Records

Under this publishing model, if all subscribers renew their subscriptions to the journals included in the S2O programme, the publisher will make articles available under a CC BY open access licence.
For 2026, the publisher has achieved the required participation threshold; therefore, no open access publication charges apply to authors.

Corresponding authors affiliated with the University of Milan (Unimi) may publish their accepted articles in open access by using their institutional email address.

Green Open Access

Unimi affiliates retain the right to make at least the post‑print version of their articles (i.e., the version incorporating changes made during peer review) publicly available in open access, without embargo, via their personal website or the institutional repository. This applies indefinitely and enables compliance with the requirements of research funding agreements as well as relevant national and European legislation.
