A Blanket Spanning a Year
Initiative for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Philosophy Library is launching the initiative “A Blanket Spanning a Year,” sponsored by the CUG (Unified Guarantee Committee) and the Crochet Lab–Arcus Unimi.
The entire university community, in all its diverse components, is invited to participate by creating at least one crocheted granny square. The only guidelines to follow are:
- the specified dimensions (either 25x25 cm or 50x50 cm)
- the use of wool.
Colour choice and crocheting techniques are entirely up to personal preference.
Completed granny squares should be delivered to the Philosophy Library during its opening hours. The squares will be assembled in groups of four (for 50 cm squares) or eight (for 25 cm squares), either independently by participants or by volunteers, to form blankets. These blankets will then be donated to anti-violence centres for fundraising purposes. Grannies should be submitted by 30 April 2025.
The finished blankets will be displayed on the floor of the Ghiacciaia (Ice Cellar) at the Philosophy Library, forming an installation that will be open for visits during library opening hours (9:00–18:00) from 25 November 2025 to 31 December 2025. Participants can contact the library.
