Renovation works continue on the Law and Humanities Library (BSGU) in Via Festa del Perdono, launched in 2023 to create a major multifunctional library.
Following the opening of Sala Centrale and the new Sala del Settecento, the project now enters its most significant phase: transforming the Crociera spaces to unify the two Crocieras, the Sala Common Law e Diritto internazionale, and the future Sala Pozzo in the area formerly occupied by Sala di Diritto Pubblico.
A new entrance from the Richini arcade will provide access to extensive open-shelf areas containing collections in law and humanities, available with extended hours and unified circulation policies. This new reading room, featuring over 600 seats, will dedicate an entire wing of the Crociera to informal study, with welcoming spaces throughout for individual study and research. The new Crociera, expected to open in the 2026/2027 academic year, will provide the academic community and general public with an innovative central hub for study, teaching, and research.
The new BSGU forms part of the University’s “Cittadella delle Biblioteche” project, which aims to consolidate all Via Festa del Perdono libraries (BSGU, Philosophy, History, SAFM) into a single unified space by 2030.
