The list of new acquisitions for the Biblioteca di Filosofia for the month of March is now available on Minerva. Newly acquired volumes and the latest issues of serials are temporarily displayed on the exhibition stand in the basement, where they can be freely consulted and borrowed.

Among last month’s acquisitions, we highlight:

  • General studies in the history of philosophy, devoted to the sources that inspired some great thinkers (Albert the Great and his arabic sources; Il pane dei filosofi: studi su Dante e la tradizione averroista; Reading Hobbes Backwards: Leviathan, the Papal Monarchy and Islam) and the contemporary legacies of modern philosophy (Alterità, critica, intersoggettività: Il contributo della Scienza della logica di Hegel alla teoria critica; Adam Smith reconsidered: history, liberty and the foundations of modern politics; Contemporary Kantian metaphysics).
  • Texts on the history of political thought, ranging from the work of Aristotle (La scienza politica in Aristotele: funzione, oggetto, metodo) to Rousseau's (Les deliberations du peuple: contexte et concepts de la philosophie politique de Jean-Jacques Rousseau), up to Carl Schmitt (Il mare contro la terra: Carl Schmitt e la globalizzazione) and Karl Polanyi (Il sofisma economicista: intorno a Karl Polanyi).
  • Reflections on important contemporary issues, such as gender identity (Il desiderio omosessuale; Gender, filosofie, teologie: la complessità, contro ogni ideologia), the ecological challenge (Philosophy of the environment: an introduction; Étincelles écosocialistes) and the social impact of new technologies (Tecnologia della rivoluzione: progresso e battaglie sociali dal microonde all'intelligenza artificiale).
  • Insights into the transformations of economics and politics, marked by crisis in trade (La globalizzazione è finita: la via locale alla prosperità in un mondo post-globale), international order (Disaster nationalism: the downfall of liberal civilization) and democracy (Le nœud démocratique. Aux origines de la crise néolibérale).
  • Volumes focused on the relationship between science and philosophy, which introduce the complexity of scientific matter (Fisica per filosofi), critically analyze its methodological and ontological assumptions  (For and Against Scientism. Science, Methodology, and the Future of Philosophy) or examine the social constraints of its production (I microbi. Trattato scientifico-politico).
