Charles Sanders Peirce Archive

This archive is part of a digitisation project aimed at promoting the thought of the American philosopher. It includes microfilm copies of Peirce’s original manuscripts, totalling over 50,000 frames.

Acquired by the Department of Philosophy in Milan during the 1980s, the archive consists of a complete microfilm copy of the original manuscripts of American philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce.

The digitisation project began in late 2007 with the aim of enhancing the value of the Peirce manuscript corpus and facilitating its use by researchers. The process involved converting over 50,000 frames of analogue microfilm into digital format on DVD.

The inventory of the Peirce Archive follows the so-called “Robin Catalogue”: Annotated Catalogue of the Papers of Charles S. Peirce by Richard S. Robin (University of Massachusetts Press, 1967, XXVIII, 268 pages; 26cm).

Prompted by Prof. Carlo Sini and Prof. Rossella Fabbrichesi - members of the Department of Philosophy and among the first to introduce and promote Peirce’s thought in Italy - Peirce Research Group was subsequently formed. The centre aims to foster the study and knowledge of Peirce through educational and research initiatives and to support cultural activities in collaboration with other Peirce study centres worldwide.
