Strambio de Castillia Archive

This collection comprises 43 handwritten stage scripts from the Compagnia Reale Sarda, dating from approximately 1830 to 1855. These scripts were likely intended for Federico Ferroni, the company’s prompter or stage assistant.

Stored in two archival folders, the documents were discovered in 2005 in the Strambio de Castillia family archive in Valmadrera (Lecco) and subsequently donated to the Library.

The collection consists of 43 handwritten stage scripts, dating from approximately 1830 to 1855, which were likely intended for the prompter or stage assistant Federico Ferroni, an active member of the Compagnia Reale Sarda. The Compagnia Reale Sarda was established in 1821 in Turin by order of Victor Emmanuel I of Savoy as part of a carefully devised political strategy aimed at promoting the “education of popular entertainment” through dramatic theatre.
