Birolli Collection

The library of Zeno Birolli, art historian and professor at Brera, reflects his research interests in contemporary art. Donated in 2015, it complements an earlier collection belonging to his family.

IThe Birolli Collection concerns the history of Italian, European, and non-European art and consists of 1,544 volumes from the Birolli family, donated at various times. The first segment of about 780 volumes was donated in 1988, primarily comprising exhibition, gallery and museum catalogues, as well as monographs on individual artists, including a section on Renato Birolli (Verona 1905–Milan 1959). The most recent donation in 2015 includes approximately 700 volumes from the private library of Zeno Birolli, son of Renato. Zeno Birolli (Milan 1939–Sarzana 2014) was an art historian, critic, professor at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and exhibition curator. The collection reflects his scholarly interests, from Futurism to interwar art, and includes rare editions on contemporary art, volumes dedicated to his father Renato, and publications curated by Zeno himself.
