Eugenio Gara Collection

Eugenio Gara was a music critic, particularly renowned for his studies on vocal interpretation and the history of Italian opera. His collection, donated in 2000, comprises nearly 3,000 volumes on theatre and music history, critical studies, and musical scores.

Eugenio Gara (Genoa 1888–Milan 1985) began his career writing music criticism for the leading newspapers of his time.He later specialised in vocal interpretation in Italian opera and, more broadly, in the history of Italian opera.

Donated by his heirs in 2000, the Gara Collection comprises nearly 3,000 volumes covering a wide range of subjects, from theatre and music history to works by composers, critical studies, literary works, and musical scores. The numerous dedications found in the volumes attest to his close relationships with a wide circle of contemporary intellectuals and artists.
