Luigi Pestalozza Collection

Pestalozza contributed as a music critic to daily newspapers and specialist journals. A university lecturer and essayist, he was also an influential promoter in the field of music. The collection includes printed scores and essays on music history and criticism

Luigi Pestalozza (Milan, 1928–2017), a distinguished music scholar and historian, collaborated as a music critic with numerous newspapers (Avanti, Unità, and Paese Sera) as well as with Italy’s leading music serials, including Musica/Realtà, which he also founded.

He taught music history at several academic institutions, including the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He authored and edited numerous essays, with a particular focus on 20th-century European music.

His work as a cultural promoter in the field of music was also significant: he organised concerts, conferences, music seasons, and events both in Italy and abroad. The collection consists of nearly 1,000 volumes, primarily printed scores, as well as essays on music history and criticism.
