Mariarosa Scaramuzza Vidoni Collection

The collection comprises a selection from the personal library of Professor Scaramuzza Vidoni, formerly Professor of Spanish Literature. An esteemed scholar of Miguel de Cervantes, she was also a friend of Clara Janés and a specialist in her work.

Mariarosa Scaramuzza Vidoni (1942-2014) was a Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Milan. Her research focused on the Spanish Golden Age, particularly the works of Miguel de Cervantes; literary theory; and 20th-century Spanish literature, with a special emphasis on poetry, including experimental and visual poetry.
Within this field, she dedicated particular attention to the poetic works of Clara Janés, a contemporary Spanish poet and member of the Real Academia Española, one of the most significant voices in 20th-century Spanish poetry. Scaramuzza Vidoni also conducted extensive research in linguistics and was a pioneer in the study of foreign language teaching, having established the first Chair of Spanish Language Didactics at the University of Milan in 1996.
Following her passing, in 2015, her family donated a carefully curated selection of volumes from her personal library to the university, choosing works that best reflected her academic interests, with a particular focus on Clara Janés to encourage further study of the poet’s work. The collection, classified under 12L.FMSV., primarily comprises a complete collection of Janés’ works, including poetry collections, translations, and critical commentaries. It also includes some autographed volumes and unique editions, as well as rare examples of visual poetry accompanied by high-quality illustrations and three-dimensional objects. Additionally, the collection features a selected bibliography on Cervantes criticism and various critical texts and editions reflecting Scaramuzza Vidoni’s broader research interests, from the Spanish Golden Age to contemporary poetry.
In total, the collection includes 141 documents, of which 52 are available for loan, belonging to the FMSV.C. section (Cervantes criticism) and the FMSV.V. section (various topics). The 89 documents in the section dedicated to Clara Janés, classified under FMSV.J., are available for consultation only, due to their unique or valuable nature.
