About the Library

The library’s collection is primarily designed to support the education of students, residents, and doctoral candidates at the Central Campus, as well as to provide continuing professional development for medical and nursing staff.

The library has also acquired a collection of serials from various former institutes and clinics within the Policlinico area.

The Biblioteca del Polo Centrale di Medicina e Chirurgia was established in 2008, thanks to the dedication of Professor Anna Spada and Dr Rossella Garlaschelli, as a facility primarily intended for students. Initially housed in the Moneta Pavilion within the Policlinico, the library relocated to the university building at Via della Commenda 19 in November 2010.

As a key reference point among the university libraries located within the Policlinico, over the years, it has incorporated the bibliographic collections of several former institutes, clinics, and departments of the Policlinico, including the Ophthalmology Clinic, the Otorhinolaryngology Clinic, the Institutes of Paediatrics and Neonatology, the Department of Neurological Sciences, the Department of Internal Medicine, and the Institute of Dermatology.

Designated as a Sector Library in 2009, it was recognised as an Area Library in 2011. In 2012, it was functionally merged with the “Luigi Devoto” Occupational Medicine Section.

The “Clinica del Lavoro Luigi Devoto” Occupational Medicine Library, a section of the Biblioteca del Polo Centrale di Medicina e Chirurgia of the University of Milan, is one of the most prestigious libraries in the field. It holds a bibliographic collection of approximately 30,000 documents on the theme of health, environment, and work.
