About the Library

Founded in 1976, the Political Sciences Library serves as a support structure for the Faculty of Political, Economic and Social Sciences, offering multidisciplinary resources in the fields of economics, law, sociology, history, political science, mathematics and statistics, linguistics and international studies.

Since 2003, the library has been dedicated to the memory of Enrica Collotti Pischel, a distinguished professor of the faculty and one of Italy’s leading scholars in historical and political studies on contemporary China. For many years, she also served as the library’s scientific director.

The library, which reopened in 2003 following a complete renovation, is located in Via Conservatorio and is organised into five reading rooms distributed across different floors. The top floor houses the European Documentation Centre.

At the entrance, users will find orientation and lending services, computers for catalogue consultation, a self-service borrowing machine, and a section dedicated to textbooks. On the same floor, there is an IT laboratory, a group study room, and an office providing research consultation services and guidance on using digital resources. Within the largest reading room, a self-recording studio is also available.

Recent monographs are arranged by subject on open shelves in the reading rooms, alongside reference works. The latest issues of current journals are also available on open shelves, while older materials are preserved in three storage areas.

The Political Sciences Library manages the CEDOC SPS (Documentation Centre of the Department of Social and Political Sciences) and holds a substantial historical collection, having inherited the book collection of the former Department of History of Society and Institutions.

The Political Sciences Library plays a fundamental role in supporting teaching activities and ensures that the textbook collection is kept up to date for exam preparation.
