Stefania Stefani Perrone Archive

Stefania Stefani Perrone was an art historian active in Varallo, where she moved in 1964 and held various institutional roles at the Pinacoteca and the Sacro Monte. This archive documents her research and professional activities.

Stefania Stefani Perrone graduated from the University of Milan with a thesis in art history dedicated to 14th-century Tuscan sculpture. From 1959 to 1975, she worked as an assistant to Professor Anna Maria Brizio, then director of the Institute. In 1964, she moved to Varallo, where she held several roles, including Artistic Director of the Varallo Art Gallery (from 1968), Honorary Inspector for artworks in Valsesia (from 1970), and Artistic Director of the Sacro Monte di Varallo (1972–2002).

In autumn 2018, the Stefani Perrone family, in accordance with the wishes of Professor Stefani, donated the personal archive of Stefania Stefani (who passed away in Varallo Sesia in 2018) to the University Library.
The archive compiles, documents, and bears witness to her work as an art historian, serving as a vital link between the Sacro Monte di Varallo and the academic world.

It has been organised and catalogued and is available for consultation by appointment.
